FAQs

What kind of therapy do you practice?

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I practice an integrative approach to therapy that draws from evidence-based schools of thought using mindfulness approaches, cognitive behavioral techniques, and relationship-based therapies. I have recent training (2024) in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

What kind of experience do you have?

I have worked in the fields of counseling, education, and nonprofits for 20 years. Please feel free to explore my website for more information.

Do we have to meet every week?

I do not practice one-size-fits-all scheduling. Weekly appointments are the most common scheduling practice in therapy and is typically what I recommend starting out with, however I find that an every other week schedule can be more beneficial to some clients. Others may only desire monthly appointments. My approach is to maintain flexibility in order to meet the unique needs of every client. *Please note that when using insurance, the parameters dictated by your coverage will determine how often we can meet.

How long will we work together for?

My goal is to put myself out of a job. I do not believe I am the key to your happiness. I believe YOU are the key to your happiness and that therapy is a process that can help you get there. I am here to recognize and reveal the solutions to life’s challenges that are already present within you. Ultimately, I want you to feel empowered to access and trust those answers for yourself. Consider the statement: “I don’t know where I would be without my therapist” versus the statement “I don’t know where I would be if I hadn’t gone to therapy and put in the work to grow.” Therapy is about the process. So my goal in working with you is not to have a life-long client, but to work with you as long as our process is a useful tool in the journey of waking up to your own inherent wisdom.

I need someone who is going to be tough on me/go easy on me. Will you make sure to be tough on me/go easy on me?

I am a “nice person” but I hold my clients accountable. Many therapists, including myself, have a kind and gentle countenance. This countenance does not come from a place of weakness or naïveté, but rather from a powerful place of radical love and unconditional positive regard. From that space, I will challenge you and sometimes I may even confront you if your behavior is consistently not in line with your stated intentions and goals. All of this is done with a great amount of love for you and a strong commitment to the idea that therapy should be helping you grow. That all being said, my goal is that our sessions feel like a respite, a safe and sacred space where we do deep work. We will also laugh and smile as much as possible! This is all meant to promote healing, health, and well-being.

What are your policies on missed appointments?

I charge a small fee for missed appointments that is equal to about a fourth of my typical rate. If you are ill I never want you to show up simply for monetary reasons, though, so I encourage you to reschedule your appointment for the same week so that you do not have to pay a cancellation fee. Please contact me to reschedule 24 hours in advance of your appointment.
